Testing Center undergoes renovation during summer

Pellissippi State’s Testing Center space is expanding as a way to provide more high-quality training services for local businesses.

The College’s Learning and Testing Center on the Pellissippi Campus is used to administer authorized Thomson Prometric and ACT Workcenter testing.

Remodeling and renovation work have been under way at the center this summer. When the remodeling work is finished, the center will provide 30 computer stations, up from 19, and 12 so-called “high-stakes” testing work stations, up from four.

After Sept. 1, the hours of operation will be Monday, 9 a.m.-1 p.m.; Tuesday and Wednesday, 9 a.m.-7 p.m.; Friday, 9 a.m. -2 p.m.; and Saturday, 8:30 a.m.-1 p.m. The center is in the Educational Resources Center.

“Maintaining a skilled workforce is a critical element of a prosperous economy, and it is part of Pellissippi State’s fundamental mission,” said Allen Edwards, president of Pellissippi State.

The Prometric testing center enables adults to enhance their careers by becoming certified in more than 100 specialty technology certifications, such as Microsoft, IBM, Oracle, CompTIA, Cisco Systems and Hewlett-Packard.

The ACT Workcenter provides an array of Web-based training and testing for area businesses, industries and organizations. ACT Workcenters give licensing and certification assessments to ensure that individuals have the necessary skills to perform certain jobs.

Certification exams are administered for such organizations as Automotive Service Excellence, which certifies automotive technicians; Association of Social Work Boards for associate, bachelor’s and master’s certification; and American Dietetic Association.
