newsletter for the faculty and staff of Pellissippi State
Pellissippi
State’s newsletter undergoes changes
Welcome
to the first edition of Pellissippi State’s new
internal newsletter, "Inside Pellissippi."
This bimonthly electronic newsletter replaces the "Pelligraph,"
which as you know was a monthly, printed publication.
Community
Relations is making the switch in order to provide you
with more timely information about the happenings of the
College. With a monthly publication, it was difficult
for us to provide you with information that was as current
as we’d like. The change is also a cost-saving measure
for the College. Now you’ll receive an e-mail every
other Monday that includes articles and briefs, a calendar
of events, an employee profile, birthdays and more.
With
the development of this e-mail newsletter, Community Relations
is making another change as well. We will no longer e-mail
you all of the news releases we send out to media. Instead,
we’ll include many of them in "Inside Pellissippi."
As usual, the complete listing of news releases will be
on the Community Relations Web site: www.pstcc.edu/community_relations/newsr.html.
We
welcome your comments on our new format. Please keep in
mind that we’ll be making minor adjustments to it
in upcoming months. If you have something you’d
like for us to include in "Inside Pellissippi"
or would like to share your thoughts on the new publication,
please contact Julia Wood, 694-6530 or jwood@pstcc.edu.
If you have an event you’d like for us to promote,
we encourage you to continue to use our Event Promotions
form at www.pstcc.edu/community_relations/calendar/annou.html.
Course schedule
now on a new schedule
Beginning
with the next issue, Pellissippi State will print and
distribute two rather than three course schedules that
list the credit and non-credit offerings. The College
will also produce a third course schedule listing only
non-credit courses. (more)
Foundation
campaign gears up
As
the state continues to cut higher education budgets, the
Pellissippi State Foundation becomes more and more vital
to the college’s continued success. Whether it’s
providing scholarships to students, equipment for classrooms
or professional development opportunities for faculty
and staff, the Foundation’s purpose is to help the
College continue to provide an exceptional education to
our students.

New computer
degree options at Pellissippi State
The
College has expanded the options available to students
under its popular Computer Science and Information Technology
(CSIT) degree program. Students pursuing an Associate
of Applied Science degree in CSIT can now follow one of
three specialized concentrations. (more)
Recent record
breakers
According
to the Admissions and Records Office, summer 2003 hit
a record enrollment for that semester. Here are the figures:
| Headcount |
3138 |
+21.1% |
| FTE |
1062 |
+19.5%
|
Preliminary
enrollment numbers indicate that this semester the Regents
Online Degree Program is also experiencing record-breaking
enrollment. The current headcount is 4,246 students.
Cafeteria
opens under new management
If
you’ve been to the Cafeteria recently, you’ve
probably noticed a few changes—both in the decor
and in the food selection and presentation. Canteen Food
Service was awarded the bid contract for Pellissippi State
and began serving food here in July. Canteen is part of
the Compass Group, which has food service operations in
more than 1,000 public and private schools in 49 states
and Canada. The manager for the Pellissippi State cafeteria
is Jennifer Tallon.
