Wise selected for Regents Academic Leadership Institute

Anthony Wise, who heads the Liberal Arts Department, is participating in the Regents Academic Leadership Institute, a new leadership development program of the Tennessee Board of Regents.

The institute is a yearlong effort designed to support academic leaders at Tennessee’s public colleges and universities. The institute seeks to develop a network of problem solvers at all 19 state-supported postsecondary schools.

The focus of the program in the first year will be strengthening leadership for academic department chairs or academic unit heads.

Wise earned a bachelor’s degree in history from Wofford College in South Carolina, a master’s in history from Wake Forest University in North Carolina and a doctorate in history from the University of Tennessee. He has been teaching at Pellissippi State since 1998.

This summer, Wise also participated in a National Endowment for the Humanities program, “Landmarks of American History,” at Mars Hill College in North Carolina.

The leadership institute began in mid-June with a session at Montgomery Bell State Park near Dickson, and the 30 participants will meet on a quarterly basis throughout the academic year to explore a variety of topics related to real issues faced by academic administrators.

The next meeting will be September 20-21.
