Pellissippi
State Foundation awarded $100,000 for endowment
The
Pellissippi State Foundation has received $100,000 to
establish an endowment to support the Civil Engineering
Technology (CET) program. The Rufus H. Smith Jr. Housing
Foundation (RHSHF) has given the Pellissippi State Foundation
$50,000 toward the endowment. That amount will be matched
by a U.S. Department of Education Title III Endowment
Challenge Grant. (more)
Flying
for FUNds a huge success
An estimated 15-20,000 people attended the Flying for
FUNds 2004 Hot Air Balloon Rally and Outdoor Festival
August 27 and 28. A fundraiser for the Foundation, the
event brought in around $93,000 in cash and in-kind gifts,
of which $27,000 was net profit.

to Anne Swartzlander, professor of E-Commerce/Marketing.

S.T.A.K.E. claims Knoxville’s future
When employers in Knoxville’s construction industry
complained that “good help is hard to find,”
the Heart of Knoxville Career and Resource Center (HOKCC)
recognized a golden opportunity to change lives—by
putting hammers, pipe cutters, and mortar trowels in the
hands of Knoxville’s un- and underemployed. (more)
Pellissippi
State experiences record summer enrollment
Pellissippi State just ended its summer sessions having
experienced the highest enrollment ever for that period.
This summer 3,176 students took classes at the college—an
increase of 1.2 percent over last summer. This comes on
the heels of a record increase in summer 2003 of 21.1 percent.

TRIO enrolls
students during September
TRIO Student Support Services is more than just about tutoring.
It offers academic support services for students with academic
need who meet eligibility requirements. To be eligible,
students must be first-generation (defined as neither parent’s
having graduated from college), low-income or have a disability.
Students are generally considered to have academic need
if they have placed into developmental courses. (more)
