Flying for FUNds a huge success

An estimated 15-20,000 people attended the Flying for FUNds 2004 Hot Air Balloon Rally and Outdoor Festival August 27 and 28. A fundraiser for the Foundation, the event brought in around $93,000 in cash and in-kind gifts, of which $27,000 was net profit.

Ballon “Flying for FUNds was more successful than we had ever imagined possible,” said Peggy Wilson, vice president of College Advancement and executive director of the Pellissippi State Foundation. “The community came out in droves to see the hot air balloons, hear the live music, purchase the arts and crafts, ride the ATVs, and play on the large inflatables.

“Of course, we couldn’t have pulled this event off without the support of our employees, students and community members. Over 200 volunteers put in many long, hard hours that weekend. And they were quick jump in to do whatever needed to be done. It makes me proud to work with such a wonderful group of individuals.”

Plans are already under way for an even bigger and better festival next year.
