eLearnIT partners celebrate successful venture

Participants in eLearnIT are celebrating the successful completion of their three-year $1.3 million grant from the Fund for the Improvement of Postsecondary Education (FIPSE). More than 1,200 students have now participated in 74 online courses and have earned credit toward 11 different professional certificates or degrees.

elearnitThe FIPSE grant brought together five institutions to provide information technology training to isolated and underserved populations in the Appalachian region through online courses. The partnering institutions are UT-Knoxville, UT-Martin, Pellissippi State, Roane State and Nashville State.

The five institutions offer credit and non-credit courses in Web development and technical communications, resulting in certificates and associate’s and bachelor’s degrees. Pellissippi State, for example, offers an online degree program in Web Development Technology that will transfer to bachelor’s degree programs from other state institutions.

The partners are hoping that in the near future they’ll also be able to involve Tennessee’s high schools in this online delivery program.
