College offers ‘delicious’ Faculty
Recital
Music lovers who attend the Faculty Recital at Pellissippi State
on October 5 may leave the event feeling hungry for more.
The theme for the 2006 season’s premier performance is “A
Musical Banquet,” and each selection will feature food or
drink.
The evening will include a mix of jazz, blues, traditional folk
and Broadway songs, with 14 members of the Music faculty, individually
and in combination, performing vocal, piano and instrumental selections.
A sample of the musical fare: “The Banquet Fugue,”
performed by the entire vocal faculty; “The Worst Pies in
London,” from the award-winning musical thriller “Sweeney
Todd”; and a fiddle version of “Orange Blossom Special.”
The recital is being coordinated by Linda Stutzenberger, Music
professor and program coordinator, and Bill Brewer, associate
professor of Music.
Set design will contribute to the ambience by featuring a cornucopia
of food-related props. The set is being created by Interior Design
Technology students under the supervision of Margaret Ann Jeffries,
IDT associate professor and department head of Engineering and
Media Technologies. Anne Kinggard, professor and program coordinator
of Art and Theatre, is also involved in the design.
“A Musical Banquet” is scheduled to begin at 8 p.m.
in the Performing Arts Center.
The concert is free, but donations will be accepted at the door
to assist in funding music scholarships at the College.
The presentation is the first in Pellissippi State’s concert
and recital season, which includes eight shows in the fall 2006
and spring 2007 semesters.
