EMPLOYEE PROFILE
Name:
Lisa Young Robinson
Title: Educational Resources Center Assistant,
Blount County Center
Major responsibilities: They include charging
and discharging books for the students, faculty and staff; assisting
patrons in the use of the available library resources at Pellissippi
State; and assisting them with their various needs when working
with computers. I also take care of the Blount County Center Web
page.
Length of service at the College: Since March
2001
Place of birth: Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina
Family members: My husband, Sam, and son, Zach.
We also have several koi and goldfish. The largest koi is Sarge
at 16 inches.
Something no one knows about you: When I was
a toddler, we lived in my father’s hometown of Greeley,
Colorado. One weekend, my family, along with my grandparents and
an uncle, went to a friend’s ranch in the mountains. While
there, we chased the cattle, wild mustangs and buffalo that he
raised. I can remember shouting that I wanted to ride the horses
and buffalo.
Greatest achievement or proudest moment: My
greatest achievement is being able to go back to college to complete
my undergraduate studies. With three associate’s degrees,
it was time to get my first bachelor’s degree.
Favorite things outside work: When I have the
time, I like to sit with my family beside the fish pond in our
front yard and listen to the gurgling fountain. I also like to
sew, do counted cross-stitch and watch old movies. This past summer,
I began researching my family tree.
Most rewarding part of your job: Helping students
learn something about the computer, their classes or college.
Most influential person in your life and why:
Besides my parents, husband and son, my aunt Peggy had the most
influence. She graduated from nursing school around the time I
was born. She was also the first person in the family to go to
college. Around the time I graduated from high school, she went
back to school. While working fulltime as an ER nurse and taking
care of my invalid grandmother, she earned honors in graduate
school. We would spend hours talking about her classes and my
classes and critiquing books that we had read. When she died in
1995, several of her coworkers started a scholarship in her name
at a community college near where she lived and worked.
Favorite quote: “If you want something
said, ask a man; if you want something done, ask a woman.”
