enrollment … again

For the third semester in a row, Pellissippi State Technical Community College has experienced its highest enrollment ever.

College officials just announced an increase in student enrollment for the 2007 fall semester—exceeding last year’s record fall enrollment by 5.2 percent.

The headcount is 8,608 students taking classes for hourly credit, up by 422 over this time in 2006.

“We are very excited to see our enrollment grow again this year,” said President Allen G. Edwards. “In part, it’s the result of the state’s renewed commitment to make higher education a major funding priority. But another significant factor in our growth is that we continue to be on the cutting edge in teaching and using new technologies that students need in order to be competitive.”

Committed faculty and staff have also contributed to the growth, says Anthony Wise, vice president of Academic and Student Affairs: “This college is fortunate to have so many faculty and staff who are dedicated to ensuring student success. They are certainly a key factor in our recent growth, and we will continue to engage our students in every way possible.”

The College offers 13 Career/Technical programs for students who plan to earn a two-year associate’s degree, then pursue a career. Numerous College Transfer options also are available to students who want to earn an associate’s degree, then continue on to a four-year school.
