A
newsletter for the faculty and staff of Pellissippi State

Dr. Allen Edwards and Dr. Robert Bell,
president of Tennessee Technological University, exchange
pleasantries during the recent Open House to celebrate
the two colleges' partnership in Education as others involved
in the program look on.
Authors
Series continues with historian Stephen Ash
In
the four long years between 1861 and 1865, a million-plus
Americans died or were wounded as a result of the Civil
War. The statistics are so mind-boggling as to be remote
and unreal.
In
his most recent book, "A Year in the South: Four
Lives in 1865," historian and UT history professor
Stephen Ash puts a face—actually four faces—on
the devastation by focusing on the daily lives of real,
ordinary people.
Ash, who is the author of seven books on the American
Civil War and Reconstruction and Tennessee history, discusses
how he came to write the book when he speaks at Pellissippi
State from noon to 1 on Oct. 23. The event will be in
the Goins Auditorium. (more)
French
Film Festival scheduled
Dr. Joan Easterly,
a professor of French and film studies and a member of
the Alliance Française, the world's largest French
teaching association, will introduce the films.
This
year's annual French Film Festival will feature one movie—“A
la folie ... pas du tout” (“He loves me, he
loves me not”), with Audrey Tautou, star of the
award-winning “Amélie”—and a
film excerpt on and music by composer Hector Berlioz.

Octoberfest
festivities coming soon
During the next two weeks, all four campuses
will celebrate Octoberfest with tasty food, music, activities
and good times. Student organizations will sell a variety
of food and other items to make money to support their
groups' efforts. In addition, the Support Staff Council
will sell hot dogs and the Administrative Council will
hold an online auction to raise money for their scholarship
funds. Please plan to help these organizations out by
joining in the activities, and encourage students to do
the same. All festivities will be held outside from 10
a.m.-2 p.m.
