TBR Magnolia Avenue Nursing Center scheduled for fall 2005

Roane State Community College is slated to expand its nursing program in Knox County beginning fall 2005 through a newly established agreement with Pellissippi State. The agreement allows for Roane State to begin offering its nursing program at the Magnolia Avenue Campus, forming the TBR (Tennessee Board of Regents) Magnolia Avenue Nursing Center.

“We are pleased to be able to partner with Pellissippi State to offer new opportunities for students to pursue a career in nursing,” said Roane State President Wade McCamey. “We hope this partnership will serve as a model for other Tennessee Board of Regents institutions, as well as demonstrate to taxpayers that through resource sharing and cooperation, community colleges can provide better access to training.”

The purpose of the agreement is to make it possible for additional students to have the opportunity to become nurses, easing the critical nursing shortage in this area. Current predictions are that by 2020, there will be more than 808,000 openings for R.N.s nationwide.

“We’re glad we can help open more doors for students who want to become nurses. We’re particularly glad we can do it at our Magnolia Avenue Campus,” said Pellissippi State president Allen Edwards. “We hope this will give our students more opportunities to fulfill their dreams.”

Thirty students will be accepted into the TBR Magnolia Avenue Nursing Center next fall thanks to the cooperative agreement. The application deadline for the program is January 21, 2005.
