Pellissippi State offers skiing and snowboarding
instruction
Want to sharpen your skills on the slopes? Pellissippi State offers
classes in both skiing and snowboarding this winter.
Options include four consecutive days on the slopes or a series
of once-a-week sessions.
Pellissippi State offers two credit courses, PHED 1070 (skiing)
and PHED 2000 (snowboarding), at Cataloochee ski area in Maggie
Valley, North Carolina. Students will spend four consecutive days
in the mountains, arriving at the resort January3 and leaving
January 6.
Fees—including instruction, lift tickets, lodging, and some
meals—range from $205 to $340, depending on the housing
option a student selects and the need for rental equipment.
A required orientation is scheduled on Thursday, December 16,
at 6 p.m. in the Goins Auditorium. For information, contact one
of these faculty members: Cathy Clay, 694-6574, or Joan Jackson,
694-6573.
For students who prefer weekly sessions on the slopes, Pellissippi
State offers two non-credit classes in winter sports.
“Learn to Ski,” a program for all skill levels, meets
at Ober Gatlinburg on consecutive Sundays, January 23-February
13, at 1 p.m. The $130 fee includes lift tickets, rental equipment,
four lessons and the round-trip aerial tramway up the mountain.
Participants can ski anytime until closing.
The non-credit course in snowboarding is also for men and women
of all skill levels. It meets at Ober Gatlinburg on consecutive
Tuesdays, January 18-February 8, at 6:30 p.m. The $189 fee includes
equipment rentals, lift tickets, four lessons and the aerial tramway.
Participants can snowboard anytime until closing.
