New student group sponsors trash cleanup day

The public is invited to join in a campus and community litter pickup campaign sponsored by the Magnolia Avenue Garden Club, a new student organization at Pellissippi State. The pickup will begin at 1 p.m. on November 17 at the Magnolia Avenue Campus. Keep Knoxville Beautiful will provide vests, gloves and trash bags for the group.

At 10 a.m. the same day, Mark Campen and Charlie Farmer from the Tennessee Izaak Walton League will give a free presentation at the campus on trash, silt, and sewage in our waters. The league educates the public on the benefits of clean water as a key to our enjoyment and economic growth. The presentation will be in the Community Room.

The Magnolia Avenue Garden Club will strive to teach students basic gardening and horticultural practices through campus lectures and volunteer activities in the Magnolia Avenue Campus area. The group’s goal is also to instill pride in the campus and surrounding community through cleanup and beautification efforts.

For more information on the cleanup project or the presentation, contact Mary Dufala at 329-3102.
