Cooke Foundation scholarships available to two-year college students, alumni
The Jack Kent Cooke Foundation is accepting applications for its
Undergraduate Transfer Scholarship Program. The program awards up
to $30,000 annually per recipient to help students and recent alumni
from community colleges and other two-year institutions pursue four-year
degrees at any accredited college or university in the U.S. and
abroad.
The foundation plans to award approximately 30 scholarships in spring
2006 for the 2006-07 academic year. Each award is renewable based
on student performance.
The scholarships provide money for tuition, room and board, required
fees and books for the balance of the undergraduate degree, generally
for two years. The amount can vary based on such factors as the
cost of the institution each recipient attends.
Current community college and junior college students are eligible
for the scholarships, as are alumni who have earned a degree from
a two-year institution since May 2001 but have not earned bachelor
degree credits.
The foundation was established in 2000 by the estate of Jack Kent
Cooke, former owner of the Los Angeles Lakers and Washington Redskins,
to help people of exceptional promise reach their full potential
through education. Last year, the foundation received nearly 800
nominations for the scholarships.
The deadline for nominations is February 1, but applicants must
submit completed applications to the Pellissippi State faculty representative,
Jonathan Fowler, 694-6441 or jafowler@pstcc.edu, no later than January
9.
Application materials are available on the foundation’s Web
site at www.jackkentcookefoundation.org, by calling (800) 498-6478
or by contacting Fowler.
