ACT Center Grand Opening is FridayYou're invited to attend the ACT Center Grand Opening on Friday, November 21, at 9:30 a.m. in the Performing Arts Center. Area business representatives, government officials and others are expected to attend. The ACT Center is a state-of-the-art testing and training center offering more than 2,500 computer-based courses in management, leadership, personal development, basic skills, and a variety of industrial and technical skills. “This is an outstanding training resource for the region,” said Mike Hudson, director of Certificate Programs/ACT Center. “It's a great opportunity for people who want to increase their skills and make themselves more promotable, as well as for employers who want just-in-time training for their workers.” It's cost-effective, too. “You pick the training you need and pay only for the courses you use,” he said. “That's good news for companies with tight training budgets.” Besides that, the courseware requires no special software, textbooks or other added expenses. Hudson also touted the flexibility and convenience of ACT Center training. Most courses are short term, with some of them taking only a few hours to complete. The training isn't linked to the Pellissippi State academic calendar, so students can start or end courses whenever it's convenient. Even better, Web-based learning allows students to attend classes anytime. “There's no time clock or set schedule,” Hudson said. “Once students establish accounts with the ACT Center, they can log on and work on a course at any hour of the day or night.”
Nearly every course can be completed at home or in the workplace, he adds. The others can be taken at the ACT Center.
