Fall Ensemble Concert tomorrow night

Matt Stephens has composed an original work, “A Christmas Hymn,” that the College’s Brass Ensemble will perform tomorrow night, November 20, as part of the Fall Ensemble Concert.

The event takes place at 8 p.m. in the Performing Arts Center and is open to the community.

“I called it ‘A Christmas Hymn’ because it’s a slow piece,” said Stephens, whose area of study is trombone, “and it encompasses traditional American hymns such as ‘Silent Night’ and ‘Russian Christmas Music.’” Stephens weaves his own melody in and out of the songs in the arrangement.

“The best thing about the ensemble concert is the huge variety,” said Peggy Hinkle, Music instructor. “Besides the Brass Ensemble, we have the Harp Ensemble, the Guitar Ensemble and a small instrumental mixed ensemble.”

Each group will perform for 15 minutes, according to Bill Brewer, associate professor of Music. About 35 students will participate in the concert.

The event is free; however, donations will be accepted and will go to the Pellissippi State Foundation for Music scholarships.

For more information, contact Bill Brewer at 694-6701.
