NPR commentator’s satellite presentation
addresses religion and economics
Do you believe that America is in financial trouble? Are you
bothered by our economic outlook?
If so, you’ll want to attend the satellite recording “American
Theocracy: The Peril and Politics of Radical Religion, Oil and
Borrowed Money in the 21st Century.” Presenter Kevin Phillips
will discuss his book of the same name, focusing on the political
and religious coalition that he believes is driving the country
to the brink of disaster.
Two Pellissippi State organizations, Phi Theta Kappa, the honor
society of two-year colleges, and Student Life and Recreation,
are hosting the event at 6:15 p.m. The presentation is Monday,
November 26, in the Goins Auditorium.
The recording is the last in a four-part series titled “Gold,
Gods, and Glory: The Global Dynamics of Power.”
The event includes refreshments and a discussion led by faculty
members David Howell, Philosophy, and Tyra Barrett, Economics.
The audience will participate in answering such questions as “How
and why has American debt increased over the last four decades?”
“To what extent is debt positive?” and “To what
extent does debt take a toll on the United States and its impact
on the global dynamics of power?”
Called a “modern Thomas Paine,” Kevin Phillips is
a regular commentator for National Public Radio and a former commentator
for CBS News.
