Pellissippi State receives $14,000 from ORAU for math, science

The Pellissippi State Foundation has been awarded a $14,000 grant on behalf of Pellissippi State from Oak Ridge Associated Universities to support mathematics and science activities.

The donation will be applied to the middle school math bowl the College has hosted for the past seven years. The event, which attracts participants from across East Tennessee, allows students to compete through a challenging multiple-choice exam designed by college professors from across the state.

The funds also will support Pellissippi State’s involvement in statewide and regional mathematics competitions. The College’s students regularly place at or near the top against other community colleges.

“We appreciate this expression of confidence from ORAU,” said Allen Edwards, Pellissippi State president. “By supporting activities like the math bowl and outside competitions, donors like ORAU contribute to the overall success of the College and its students.”

ORAU manages the Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education for the U.S. Department of Energy.
