Pellissippi State and Carson-Newman College sign music transfer agreement

Thanks to the first-ever transfer agreement between Pellissippi State and Carson-Newman College in Jefferson City, Pellissippi State students completing the agreement’s requirements can now transfer with no loss of credit and enter Carson-Newman in music with junior status.

“We’re very pleased about the partnership with Carson-Newman College,” said Allen Edwards, Pellissippi State president. “The transfer agreement provides our students yet another way to achieve their educational goals, and we look forward to expanding our relationship with Carson-Newman in the future.”

Edwards and Carson-Newman President James Netherton signed the agreement October 31.

“These kinds of agreements are very important as we seek to meet 21st century needs with 21st century creativity,” said Netherton. “This partnership creates a seamless transfer protocol that will benefit students. While music is not often seen as a curriculum innovator, this agreement will be a model for several other programs we expect to develop with Pellissippi State.”

According to Donald Clark Measles, Carson-Newman’s Music Department chair and dean of the Division of Fine Arts, “Through the years, a number of Pellissippi students have completed their undergraduate degrees at Carson-Newman. It is a pleasure to work with such students and a delight to sign an agreement that makes it easy for them to make the transition to our program.”

Pellissippi State has articulation and transfer agreements with numerous colleges and institutions, and Pellissippi State students who transfer to Carson-Newman to further their music education will enjoy the benefits of the newest agreement.

“We are excited about the advantages that this agreement will bring to both schools,” said Linda Stutzenberger, program coordinator for Music. “It is a given that students at Carson-Newman will receive the close interaction with faculty that they experienced here at Pellissippi State. Knowing precisely what courses remain in a given curriculum will serve as an incentive for the student to complete the degree.”
