Pellissippi State schedules Fall Ensemble, Holiday Spectacular
concerts
The Music program will sponsor its next two concerts this week
and in early December.
The annual Fall Ensemble concert will take place November 22 at
8 p.m., and the annual “Holiday Spectacular” will
take place December 6 at 8 p.m., both in the Performing Arts Center.
The Fall Ensemble concert will consist of performances by the
Harp, Celtic, Brass and Guitar ensembles.
The Harp Ensemble, directed by Elizabeth Farr, will perform music
by G.F. Handel, an arrangement of the traditional Welsh song “Ash
Grove” and a set of modern pieces by French composer Bernard
Andres. The five harpists also will perform an arrangement of
“Chariots of Fire” by Vangelis.
Members of the Celtic Ensemble, also led by Farr, will perform
music for flute, violin, guitar and vocals, including reels and
jigs. The Brass Ensemble, directed by Barbara Adamcik, will include
in its set a suite of songs from Leonard Bernstein’s “West
Side Story” and Jeremiah Clarke’s “Trumpet Voluntary.”
The Guitar Ensemble, led by Larry Vincent, will perform music
ranging from Baroque pieces to pop classics by Stevie Wonder and
jazz standards by Miles Davis.
In December, the seventh annual Holiday Spectacular will feature
the instrumental ensembles and the College’s two choral
ensembles, as well as a jazz band and dancers from the elementary
jazz dance class.
The theme of the program is “White Christmas.” The
program, under the direction of Bill Brewer, assistant professor
of music, will include holiday favorites ranging from traditional
carols to movie themes to pop selections. More than 100 students
will participate.
Both concerts are free. Donations for Music scholarships will
be accepted at the door.
