Classes to begin in January in new security program

Courses in security investigation techniques, emergency planning and security management will be offered as part of Pellissippi State’s newest degree program, which starts in the spring semester.

The Security Engineering and Administration Technology program will help train the specialists needed to administer the latest advances in corporate and government security.

Five specialized courses will be offered in the spring semester, which begins in January. Five more specialized courses will be added for the fall 2006 semester, including Physical and Personnel Security and Legal Aspects of Security Administration.

The SEAT program has been planned with the assistance of local security administrators from such agencies as the TVA, the FBI, the U.S. Department of Energy and the Knoxville Police Department.

The program has two career paths, Security Administrator and Security Technician, and will blend a cross-disciplinary array of new courses with existing ones in Electrical Engineering Technology and High Performance Computing. Both Electrical Engineering Technology and High Performance Computing remain separate degree programs.
