A
newsletter for the faculty and staff of Pellissippi State
Transfer
students excel at UT
We’ve
long known that Pellissippi State students who transfer
to the University of Tennessee do well academically at
the university. Therefore, this excerpt from a recent
letter from Don Scroggins, the director of UT’s
Office of Institutional Research and Assessment, should
come as no surprise:
I think you will be pleased to note that
overall, Pellissippi students are performing well at UT.
Generally, their retention and graduation rates are higher
than the average for all transfer students. Pellissippi
students who come to UT with 60-89 credit hours are performing
exceptionally well. In the most recent reporting period,
60 percent of them obtained a grade point average of 3.0
or more in their first term at the University, and, historically,
more than 75 percent graduate within six years. I think
this reflects positively on their community college preparation.
AITP
asks for donated toys
Pellissippi
State’s Association of Information Technology Professionals
(AITP) is asking you to donate new, unwrapped toys for
this year’s Toys for Tots drive. For more than 12
years this student organization has collected toys to
help children in this area have a more enjoyable Christmas
than might otherwise be possible. Please help this year’s
drive be a successful one. (more)

More than 100 people—many from the
community—attended the Holiday Tablescapes presentation
by Margaret Ann Jeffries, department head of Engineering
and Media Technologies, November 20th in the Performing
Arts Center. Sponsored by the Support Staff Council, the
presentation raised $105 in contributions toward the Child
of Support Staff Scholarship.
Santa makes
an appearance at the College
Faculty,
staff and students are invited to bring their children
to the annual Breakfast With Santa on Saturday, December
6, 9-11 a.m. at the Pellissippi Campus. Families will
enjoy a free pancake breakfast, games and crafts. “The
Winter Queen” will read the children a story, and
Santa Claus will be on hand to hear their Christmas wishes.
