College honors Blount County car dealership, owners for support

West Chevrolet and its owners, Steve and Ruth West, received recognition for their contributions to Pellissippi State and its students at a National Philanthropy Day observance in Knoxville November 17.

West Chevrolet, which dates back to a Maryville auto dealership started before 1931, was cited for helping lead the College’s efforts to develop plans and raise money for a new campus in Blount County.

The Wests have endowed scholarships through the Pellissippi State Foundation, and they have headed and participated in several special events sponsored by the College.

Steve West acquired the Charles West Chevrolet dealership from his father in 1973 and renamed it West Chevrolet. The dealership opened its Airport Motor Mile location in 1985.

In all, 10 East Tennessee area institutions and nonprofit organizations honored individuals, businesses and volunteers for their contributions. The Great Smoky Mountain chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals sponsored the National Philanthropy Day event at the Crowne Plaza Hotel.
