Video Production Technology

MEDIA TECHONOLOGIES: VIDEO PRODUCTION TECHNOLOGY  (A.A.S.)

Whether it’s a full-scale production for a major TV network or a corporate explainer video about how they get that little plastic thing on the end of a shoelace, video is one of the most prevalent forms of content in the world.

From your first semester in Pellissippi State’s Video Production Technology program, you will learn the basics of composition, lighting, camera operation, editing and working on a professional set. You’ll go on to learn script writing, directing, production and how to oversee a crew on location. Our hands-on and project-based classes give access to the latest in cameras, production gear and software to provide you with the skills for an exciting career in video production.

There is great demand for Pellissippi State’s VPT graduates in Knoxville, which is home to major production companies like Discovery, Jupiter Entertainment and RIVR Media. Internships are available in the last semester before graduation, giving you a great head start in locally produced reality TV, corporate videos, commercials, promotional and training videos, web content and even motion pictures. Nearly 65% of our students are hired within six months of graduation.

Typical job opportunities: Videographer, editor, production assistant, gaffer, video illustrator, camera operator, visual effects artist and screenwriter.

Salaries for creative video producers in the area can be as high as $86,000 per year with an average of around $45,000.
