ADA Accommodations and Accessibility

ADA Accommodations and Accessibility

The ADA is designed to remove barriers that prevent those with physical and cognitive disabilities from experiencing the same opportunities available to those without disabilities.

Pellissippi State is committed to providing equal opportunity access to employment, education, services, and programs for persons with disabilities. The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, and the Tennessee Human Rights Act provide that qualified individuals cannot be denied access in the areas of employment, public accommodations, education, government services, and telecommunications.

The College provides reasonable accommodations to otherwise qualified employees who are disabled or become disabled and need support performing the essential functions of their positions. A qualified individual with a disability is defined as a person who satisfies the required skill, experience, education, and other job-related requirements of a position and who, with or without reasonable accommodations, can perform the essential functions of the position.

Requesting a Workplace Accommodation

Employees

Human Resources serves in a coordinating role for all Pellissippi State employees with documented disabilities who seek reasonable accommodation. Human Resources works with employees, their licensed healthcare providers, and their departments throughout the interactive process to determine whether and how individuals with disabilities can be accommodated in the workplace.

To initiate the process of requesting workplace accommodation, contact Human Resources at humanresources@pstcc.edu .

Documentation

All documentation must come from an appropriate healthcare provider and should be dated within the last three (3) years. The provider must state whether the employee is able to perform each job task with or without reasonable accommodation. The employee must provide a statement discussing what, if any, accommodation would be appropriate to support their disabilities.
