MECHANICAL ENGINEERING TECHNOLOGY (A.A.S.)

A degree in Mechanical Engineering opens the door to countless potential careers anywhere in the world – aerospace, automotive, chemical, computer technology, defense, electronics, materials and metals, pharmaceuticals, robotics, and more. Pellissippi State’s professors will give you hands-on experiences and real-world problem-solving skills in both lectures and labs for a fully immersive education.

Outside of the classroom, you can help design and build a formula-style racecar from the ground up and take part in national Formula SAE competitions with Pellissippi State Motorsports, the only team fielded by a community college.

Choose a path that’s right for you: immediately begin your career after a two-year Associate’s degree, or seamlessly transfer your credits toward an advanced degree at an accredited four-year institution.

Typical job opportunities: Mechanical engineering technician, engineering assistant, mechanical designer, plant engineering technician, project management assistant, engineering materials lab technician and technical sales.

Classes: Material Testing, Machine Shop Practices, Manufacturing, Fluid Mechanics, Applied Mechanics, Computer-Aided Design, Additive Manufacturing and Mechanical Systems.

The average starting salary for a Mechanical Engineer with an associate’s degree is $59,450 per year with the potential to earn more than $100,000 per year.
