Materials/Application Instructions
The Pellissippi State Application process requires students
to do paperwork. The purpose of this page is to help you with your paperwork. For
instructions on which paperwork is required for your case, please see
the International Admissions Guide.
The Application (Example)
Please see this sample Pellissippi
State Application. Choosing the appropriate major on the application
can be difficult. As a Community College, Pellissippi State can help students
with the first 2 years of a 4-year bachelor’s degree. Students in
these programs graduate with an Associate of Arts (AA) degree or an Associate
of Science (AS) degree. Students can also get a 2-year Associate of Applied
Science (AAS) degree from Pellissippi State. Students should choose the
program that they plan to enter which most closely matches their educational
goal. Note students who want a 4-year bachelor’s degree but
are unsure of their major course of study should indicate that they are
“AA GA99 General Associate of Arts” or “AS GS99 General
Associate of Science.” Students can change their major
later. For a complete list of majors at Pellissippi State, please visit
this
web page.
Most students who live outside of the United States do not have Social
Security Numbers. You can leave this field blank on this application and
Pellissippi State will assign you a student identification number that
you can use instead.
At the bottom of page one you are asked “U.S. citizen? Yes/No.”
Students who are not U.S. citizens should indicate “No” and
then answer the next questions. “If No, indicate: Visa Type/Permanent
Resident.” Students who will enter the United States on a student
visa should indicate “F1” as their visa type. Students with
a different visa status should indicate their visa category (H4, J2, L2, etc).
Students who will change their visa status should write the visa status
that they are changing to. For example, if a student is in F2 status and
is changing to F1 status, this student should write “F1.” Refugees and Asylees should indicate permanent
resident and write in either “refugee” or “asylee”
as appropriate. It is very important that you sign the bottom of page
two of the application.
The residency information at the bottom of page one of the application
is used to determine whether someone is a legal resident of Tennessee.
If you do not live in Tennessee yet, please list the date that you plan
to come to Tennessee, and the reason you are coming. The student in
our example is coming on a student visa (F1) and is moving so that he
can study at Pellissippi State.
The Summary of Educational Experience Form (Example)
This form helps the college understand your educational
background. The form asks students to begin by listing when they started
school as a child. Students can use additional paper if needed.
In many countries, all students study at the same type of high school—a
kind of “normal” school. In other countries, there are different
levels of high school or middle school. Some students in these countries
go to academic or vocational schools. This information should be written
in the column “Grade Standard.” In the example, the student
went to an academic high school in Germany, but later went to a vocational
college.
The I-20 Request Form (Example)
Only students seeking F-1 visa sponsorship should fill
out this form. It gives the college general information that is required
for issuance of an official immigration document, form I-20. The I-20
is an official document that the U.S. government requires students to
have to be considered for an F-1 visa.
The Financial Support Form (Example)
Only students seeking F-1 visa sponsorship should fill
out this form. It tells the college how you intend to support yourself
while you are in the United States. Please note that page 2 of this form
requires the signature of the sponsor. A letter of sponsorship can be
substituted for this form. Also, an official letter or official statement from a bank
can be substituted for item number 4 on this form. Please note that all documents
proving availability of funds from a foreign bank must include an equivalency
in US Dollars.
The Transfer Form (Example)
Only students in F-1 status who are transferring in to Pellissippi State
from another school should fill out this form. The top of this form should
be filled out by the student and the bottom should be filled out by the
school that he or she is currently attending. A student’s SEVIS
ID number should be taken from his or her most recent I-20.
