| A. | Demonstrate a basic knowledge of the broad historical context of the period from the late 19th Century through the present, and its attendant influence on the major art created during this time. I.5, IV.3 | ||||||||
| B. | Demonstrate a basic understanding of the terms and techniques associated with art movements/styles from Romanticism through present day Neo-Expressionism and Narrative art. I.5, II.3, IV.3 | ||||||||

| Upon successful completion of this course, the student should be able to: | |||||||||
| 1. | Identify and describe both verbally in class discussion and in written format, the style, techniques, major innovations and trends in art from the following movements: Romanticism, Impressionism, Symbolism, Art Nouveau, Expressionism and its mutations, Pop, Op, Photo-realism, video and film. | 2. | Recognize and distinguish between variations in media discussed when presented in a visual context. A | ||||||||
| 3. | Define in short answer format basic terminology associated with course content: Style, form, iconography, area, plane, mass/volume, color, scale/size, line (actual and implied), perspective and content. B | ||||||||
| 4. | Infer correlations between historical context in which art is created and the type of art produced; its reflection of society, culture and time. A | ||||||||

| Students
will be given three broad-based examinations (25% each) during the semester.
Exams will consist of:
* Slide Identification: artist, movement, time, country and other special attributes * Short answer definitions And/Or short essay questions * Essay questions on broad based information |

| During the semester, students are required to view two area art exhibitions. A paper detailing the exhibition viewed and its correlation to course content is required for each exhibition. Papers must be a minimum of two pages typed. Failure to complete paper or papers will result in an I grade. | |||||||||

| Pellissippi State Technical Community College expects students to attend all scheduled instructional activities. As a minimum, students in all courses must be present for at least 75 percent of their scheduled class and laboratory meetings in order to receive credit for the course. | |||||||||
