| Practical experience in a laboratory setting in the different phases of play production. Intermediate-level production with a writing assignment required. May be repeated once for credit (maximum of 6 hours). | |||||||||
| Entry Level Standards: | |||||||||
| The main competency necessary to participate in Play Production is the willingness to commit time to the rehearsal process and/or the construction of scenery, props, costumes, etc. and/or business management. The instructor based on try-outs, previous experience, demonstrated talent, portfolios, etc assigns performance roles and stage manager level positions, designers and other areas of responsibility. Since the student has taken THE 1311 it is assumed that a level of basic knowledge of theatre has been attained. | |||||||||

| B. Laboratory Expectations: | |||||||||
| This course
is in a laboratory setting in which the student learns by participating
in a fully
staged production and accomplishing assigned tasks in his discipline. The nature of the work for THE 2311 is basically the same as that of THE 1311, but the work is more intensive, greater responsibilities are assigned and a higher level of expertise is expected. At the beginning of the term (rehearsal process) the student and the teacher reach a written understanding as to what his responsibilities will be and the standard for a specific grade through a contract. The instructor establishes the A, B, and C contract and sets the pass/fail standard for each assignment. The student then chooses a grade between A and C. The contract may be reevaluated during the rehearsal period. A student will work approximately seven hours a week or 112 hours over the semester. However, some positions will require longer hours for six weeks of rehearsal and performances and not as many during the other weeks. The teacher will periodically assess the work of the student and discuss the evaluation with him. The immediate supervisor or crew head will fill out an evaluation form rating his work. A time sheet recording all hours worked during the production will be filled out by the student and signed by the supervisor. In order to pass all students are expected to

| An agreed upon contract designating the position and amount of work expected with Pass/fail on each assignment. | |||||||||
| VI. Policies: | |||||||||
| Attendance Policy: | |||||||||
| Attendance is mandatory. Students must attend seventy-five percent (75%) of their assigned responsibilities in order to receive credit. Grades, however will be affected by any time missed up to the twenty-five percent (25%) absence minimum. | |||||||||
