Catalog Course Description:

 

 

 

This is a laboratory course that provides an opportunity for students to observe and interact with children in an early childhood setting.  The student will participate in an accredited developmental program with children from infancy to early childhood to observe their emotional, social, cognitive, and physical development.

Entry Level Standards:

 

 

 

Must be able to read and write at the college level.

IV. Expectations for Student Performance*: 

 

 

Upon successful completion of this course, the student should be able to:

Submit written observations of the children and environment the clinical sites.  A

Maintain a log of fieldwork experience visits to be turned into the instructor. A, B

Attend clinical sites related to class: minimum of 3 field trips/visits. A, B

Complete a site participation letter signed by the supervisor of the cooperating center.  A, C

V. Evaluation:

 

 

 

A. Testing Procedures:

 

Students will be evaluated by the instructor based on the completion of course requirements.

 

B. Laboratory Expectations:

 

Students will keep a journal, reflecting on observation experiences.  They will share in writing the knowledge they have learned and how they will use this knowledge in the classroom.

 

C. Field Work:

 

Students will observe and assess different early childhood education programs at various sites.

VI. Policies:

 

 

 

A. Attendance Policy:

 

Pellissippi State Technical Community College expects students to attend all scheduled instructional activities.  As a minimum, students in all courses must be present for at least 75 percent of their scheduled class and laboratory meetings in order to receive credit for the course.
