The goals of the CIDD program are to teach basic drafting standards, integration of 3D modeling with the design/manufacturing process and integration of modeling, imaging and animation as a communication and design tool.
Students are taught drafting skills and standards with traditional drafting tools and software used by industry such as AutoCAD and Microstation. Student are also taught the use of 3D modeling software to construct models of parts or assemblies. Students are taught how electronic models speed production by allowing digital testing, downloading to a machining center and verifying designs. Modeling, imaging and animation software is taught as a communication and design tool by generating images and animation for design review, marketing and client reviews.
The CIDD program offers instutional certificates students may receive in addition to the associates degree. The certificates have four options: Architectural , AutoCAD, Mechanical and Microstation.
Cooperative Education/Internships
Approximately 50 percent of CIDD graduates receive credit for a paid, cooperative work experience.
Job Opportunities

Scholarships
There are several scholarships available through the Pellissippi State Foundation and the Financial Aid Office.
Equipment/Software
The CIDD program has 2 traditional drafting labs and 3 computer
labs. The CIDD program maintains current industry level computer workstations,
printers, plotters, scanners and software. All the labs are NT workstations
and are networked with a central file server. CIDD classes regularly use
the Internet to access information and use networked CDs to access industry
specific information. Students have access to AutoCAD, AutoCAD Desktop
applications, Microstation, Project Architect, Pro-Engineer, 3D Studio, Adobe
Photoshop, Microsoft Office Suite and other more specialized applications.

High School Preparation
Students who have taken high school geometry and drafting classes tend to be best prepared for the curriculum. Also, students who can work independently and are self-motivated tend to do well in this field. Previous drafting experience is not required; it is just helpful.
