What is the TBR Magnolia Avenue Nursing Center Program?

Roane State has expanded its nursing program onto the Pellissippi State Magnolia Avenue Campus.

What degree can a student earn through the program?

Upon successful completion of the program, a student will be awarded the Associate of Applied Science in Nursing degree.  The student is then eligible to take the NCLEX examination to become a registered nurse (RN).

What do I need to do to be eligible for the program?

Students need to complete several pre-requisite courses, listed on the Roane State pre-requisite checklist at http://www.pstcc.edu/departments/curriculum_and_instruction/advising-info/rscc-checklist.pdf.  Twelve hours of pre-requisite courses, including the college level math requirement, must be completed prior to applying for admission into the Roane State Nursing Program.  Pellissippi State offers all the necessary pre-requisites. Students need to complete an application to Roane State Community College and another application to the Roane State Nursing Program.  The nursing program application deadline is the third Friday in January.  Acceptance into the nursing program is based on grades and number of credits completed.

How long is this program?

Most students complete the pre-requisite courses in about one year, followed by two years of nursing school classes.

How many students will be accepted into the program?

Roane State accepts about 150 students into their nursing program each year.  Approximately 30 of those will take their nursing classes at the Magnolia Avenue Campus.

Can students attend the program part-time or on weekends or evenings?  Are any distance learning courses offered?

The pre-requisite courses offered by Pellissippi State are available in a wide variety of formats, times, and locations.  Course offerings include regular, video, and web classes; daytime, evening, and weekend classes; and classes on all four Pellissippi State campuses.  Students may choose to take classes on a full-time or part-time basis.

The Roane State nursing classes are daytime classes.  Students must follow the required schedule of nursing classes each of the four semesters of nursing school, as explained in the Roane State Catalog (available online at www.roanestate.edu).
