Criteria for Admission at the
Time of Application to B.S.N Major:
-
The applicant must have a minimum cumulative
grade point average of 2.60 on a 4.0 scale (on all college level work)
as computed by East Tennessee State University. Developmental studies/remedial
coursework is not included in the calculation of the cumulative grade point
average for College of Nursing admission purposes.
-
The applicant must have earned a minimum
grade of "C" (2.0) in each of the required science and nursing courses.
No more than two science or nursing courses may be repeated, and no more
than one science or nursing course may be repeated more than once in order
to achieve a minimum of "C" (2.0).
Second degree applicants will be evaluated
using the criteria outlined above.
Application/Selection Process:
-
During the first semester of sophomore
year, the PSTCC student applies to East Tennessee State University as a
"special student" and advance registers for FCNU 2010, 2030, and PMNU 2020,
2310. "Special student" status does not guarantee admission to the
B.S.N. major. Student will be enrolled at both PSTCC and ETSU during the
spring semester of sophomore year.
"Special students" will
be assessed the ETSU tuition rate for courses offered by ETSU. The ETSU
Office of Admissions will determine residency status for purposes of ETSU
tuition rates (i.e., in state or out-of-state).
-
Students must make formal application
to the College of Nursing B.S.N. major during the semester in which they
will complete (or have in progress) all the courses listed above and meet
all other admission requirements. Typically, application is made during
the first semester of the sophomore year. The deadline for application
to the spring semester is October 1.
The student must submit
a completed College of Nursing application, copies of all college/university
transcripts and an academic records release form. An unofficial transcript
from PSTCC will be accepted as part of the College of Nursing application
process. The application and transcripts must be submitted to: Office of
Student Services, College of Nursing, East Tennessee State University,
P.O. Box 70617, Johnson City, TN 37614-0617.
-
All eligible applicants will be rank-ordered
by cumulative college-level grade point average. Conditional admission
to the nursing major will be offered to the top ranked students through
the ETSU College of Nursing. All applicants will be notified of their admission
status prior to advance registration for the spring semester. Advance registration
into the nursing courses will be coordinated by ETSU College of Nursing
academic advisors.
-
Conditionally admitted students "special
students" will advance register for FCNU 2010, 2030, and PMNU 2020, 2310,
as well as remaining PSTCC courses. A final verification of eligibility
will be made once fall semester grades become available. Students who are
no longer eligible at the end of the fall semester will be administratively
dropped from the nursing courses and must reapply to the next B.S.N. class
or select an alternate program at PSTCC.
-
Those "special students" who continue
to successfully progress must apply to East Tennessee State University
and be fully admitted as a degree seeking student prior to progression
into the junior year of the B.S.N. degree program. Provided enrollment
is on a full-time basis, those students can expect to complete the B.S.N.
degree requirements in four additional semesters. Part-time enrollment
in the nursing major is possible.
Progression Criteria:
To progress to the junior year,
each fully admitted "special student" must (1) be fully admitted to ETSU
as a degree-seeking student; (2) earn a minimum of "C" in HSCI 3020 Human
