Creating Presentations Using PowerPoint

Starting a New Presentation

Title Page

  1. When PowerPoint opens, select blank template. The autolayout page will appear. Select the Title Slide layout. Click Format and select Apply Design. Select the design you desire. (As you page down the list, the program displays a sample view.)
  2. Enter the presentation title – DO NOT press the ENTER key. Click outside the title box when finished. Enter a subtitle in the same manner.

  3. If the Common Tasks toolbar is present, Click New Slide. If it isn’t showing, go to the Insert menu and click New Slide, or click on the double-set of down arrows in the far right-hand corner. Select the type of slide desired.

    Changing Font Size and Text Style

  4. Double Click the text you wish to change. It will become highlighted. With the selected area highlighted, point to the Decrease Font Size button on the formatting toolbar. A Click the button until the desired size is reached.

    Adding Clip Art to a Slide

  6. The easiest way to add clip art is by using one of the Autolayouts designed for clip art. If the slide that you wish to add clipart to does not have a clipart placeholder, it is easy to switch to one which does. From the common tasks toolbar, or from the the Insert menu, select Slide Layout. Select a slide which has a clip art placeholder and click Apply. The text on your original slide is automatically resized.
  7. To insert the clip art double-click the placeholder. PowerPoint will display the Clip Gallery. Select the picture you wish to use. Click Insert.
  8. Another way to add clip art is to a slide that does not contain a placeholder, such as the title slide. Click the Insert Clip Art button on the toolbar. Select the picture you desire by double-clicking. You will have to move and resize the object.

    Adding Transitions to a Slide Show

  9. Click Slide Show on the menu at the top of the screen. Select Slide Transition. Chose the effect that you desire. Click Apply.

    Viewing the Presentation

  10. Return to your title page by using the previous page arrow at the right hand side of

the screen. Next, click the Slide Show button at the bottom of the screen. The presentation will appear in full screen view.

Saving the Presentation

11. Insert a formatted floppy disk in Drive A. Then click the Save button on the

Standard toolbar. The save dialog displays. The insertion point displays in the File Name list box. The default folder, My Documents, displays in the Save list box. Presentation displays in the Save as type list box. Type the title of your presentation in the File Name list box DO NOT PRESS ENTER. Click the Save in box arrow. Point to 3 1/2 Floppy (A:) in the save list. Click. Then, point to the Save button and Click.

Quitting PowerPoint

12. Click the Close button on the title bar. If prompted to save, click Yes.

Opening an Existing Presentation

13. Place your floppy disk in drive A. Open PowerPoint. Click Open Existing

Program. In the Look in box, click the arrow. Select 3 1/2 Floppy (A:). Highlight your title. Click OK.
