Current and Upcoming Projects



Following is a list of Facilities projects currently underway, or planned for the near future. For questions regarding these projects, please contact Dave Walton.

Currently in progress:

Roof Replacement for Alexander & Physical Plant Buildings- The Alexander and Physical Plant buildings will receive roof replacements during the summer of 2006. work is expected to start about June and proceed through September. This work is funded as a TBR Capital Maintenance Project.

GoinsBuilding Re-Roofing Project- The Goins building on the Hardin Valley Campus will also receive a roof replacement this year. Work is expected to begin about late July and be completed by late October. This also funded as a TBR Capital Maintenance project.

Paving of the Overflow Parking Area- The overflow portion of the 09 parking lot which is currently gravel will be paved during the summer of 2006. This will create an additional 250 paved parking spaces for the Fall 2006 semester. This project will run about $650,000 and is part of the Goins and Alexander Building Renovation project referenced below.

Construction of F Building, and D building Expansion- Ground breaking for this project is expected to begin in May or June of 2006. The new F building at 25,650 square feet, will primarily house the Fine Arts departments, and will include art studios and video production studios, as well as classroom space and faculty offices. The Physical Plant building will receive an additional 10,326 square feet of space and will provide a new location for the campus security offices and mailroom, as well as additional shop areas for building and grounds maintenance. Project funding is $6,550,000. This project was originally conceived and funding requested in 1991 as a TBR Capital Outlay project.

ERCTestingCenter Expansion- The ERC Testing Center will be expanded and improved during the summer of 2005. This project will consist of enlarging the overall center, including the Pro-Metric testing area, as well as improving the testing environment. This $100,000 project is being funded through college operating funds.

 

Future Projects:

Goins and AlexanderBuilding Renovations- We expect to be able to begin work on a major renovation project for the Goins and Alexander buildings by 2007 or 2008. The renovation will involve re-design of existing areas to better utilize the space for existing programs. The bookstore will be expanded as well as classroom and office spaces being enhanced and enlarged. The anticipated funding of $5,040,000 is being provided as a TBR Capital Outlay expense.

New BlountCounty Campus- Designwork is underway for a new campus on the existing Blount County Center site. The new campus building will be constructed in two phases allowing the continuation of classes and programs in the existing building while the first phase is constructed. Once phase one is done, the existing building will be removed and the second portion of the new building will be constructed in its place. This $11.5 million project is being funded as a TBR Capital Outlay project with allocation of funds anticipated by 2009, and construction to begin in 2010.

Additional Roof Replacements- Funding is anticipated for roof replacements for the Alexander building and Physical Plant building in 2006 and 2007. At $160,000 and $130,000 respectively, these projects are being funded as TBR Capital Maintenance expenditures.

Magnolia Campus Infrastructure Upgrades- Four million dollars has been requested from TBR for complete renovation and upgrade of the major mechanical systems of the Magnolia Avenue campus. This would include new electrical supply and load distribution, new HVAC throughout the building, and completion of the second and third phase of the building fire sprinkler plan. Allocation of this funding is anticipated by 2009.
