Federal regulations requires colleges to conduct loan counseling sessions to assure that student borrowers have a good understanding of the repayment process and the student loan debt they incurred. At Pellissippi State all students who graduate, enroll for less than half-time, transfer, or withdraw from school must complete an exit loan counseling session.

The counseling sessions cover the following information:

  • Access the National Student Loan Database System for information on your current loan status and disbursements along with outstanding student loan balances.
• Terms to Know and Understand
• Repayment Plans
• Consequences of Defaulting on your Student Loan from the U.S. Department of Education Debt Services
• Student Rights and Responsibilities
• Electronic Links for Student Loan information and Loan Calculators by FinAid
• Electronic Links to loan servicing centers to some of the lenders our students use:

This session can be completed in one of two ways:

• By scheduling an individual counseling appointment with a Financial Aid staff member at one of our campuses. Call for appointment.
• By electronic online loan counseling at your convenience. This is provided through Mapping Your Future. You will need to carefully read the information and answer the question at the end of each section. The information will electronically be sent to a Pellissippi State Financial Aid Counselor within 24 hours and checked during regular business hours.

  If you have any questions concerning your loan, please call or come by our office during regular business hours or e-mail us at any time. Questions concerning loan counseling may be e-mailed to Sharon Shastid at seshastid@pstcc.edu or submitted in the on-line loan counseling session. You have made an important step in meeting your financial needs for college. This decision takes planning, commitment, and an understanding of the loan repayment process. Stafford loans are not gift money. Student loans are an agreement between you and a bank and they must be repaid including all accrued interest and fees even if you do not complete your education, do not find employment, or are not satisfied with your education. You signed a loan application or promissory note which is your commitment to financial responsibility and repayment.

  In order to complete the on-line counseling session, you must go to the Mapping Your Future web site.

  NOTE: If you exit on-line loan counseling without completing the Mapping Your Future session, you will not receive credit for this counseling session.
