Food and Beverage Careers

The Food service or restaurant management career is incredibly diversified. Restaurants can range from self-serve, to quick serve, to casual, to family, to full service, to elegant within a few blocks of each other in most major cities. Food service management can also be found in healthcare facilities, schools, industrial and manufacturing facilities, cruise ships, hotels, casinos, catering, clubs, resorts, and many other outlets. It is a fact that nearly half of every dollar a person spends on food is spent at a food service facility where food is prepared and sold to customers. The future has never been brighter, nor has the demand ever been as strong for good food service managers. Entry level positions and experience are vital to the success of up and coming food and beverage managers. Many of the largest food service companies in the world have presidents and CEO's that started in the food service business in one or more of the following capacities:

  • Bus person
  • Wait Staff
  • Host
  • Buyer
  • Cook
  • Dishwasher
  • Baker
  • Cashier
  • Pantry employee
  • Server
The experience you can get in the industry in combination with the formal hospitality education is a certain formula for career success for those that are willing to strive for excellence in their professional life.
