Glossary:Definitions of Terms Used for Institutional Research ReportsFirst-time Freshmen: A degree-seeking student who has not previously enrolled for work creditable toward a degree in any college, university, or technical institute. Such students who first enrolled in a summer term will be classified as first-time freshmen for the following fall term only if they return in the fall term.Entering Term: The first term a student enrolls at Pellissippi State. Summer first-time freshmen returning in the fall will always be assigned an entering term of fall.Full-time Student: A student who enrolls in 12 or more hours including courses in the Developmental Studies Program.Part-time Student: A student who enrolls in less than 12 hours including courses in the Developmental Studies Program.Developmental Studies Student: A student who, after taking a program assessment, places into at least one course in the Developmental Studies Program.Undergraduate Special Student: A student who is non-degree seeking and holds no degree or certificate, or a student who holds a degree at any level but is taking courses for undergraduate credit. This includes students seeking Institutional Certificate awards at Pellissippi State.Major/Program of Study: A student's program of study. Students whose primary goal is to transfer to a four-year college or university enroll in the college transfer/university parallel program. Students whose primary goal is to seek immediate employment after graduation enroll in a career/technical program.Ethnicity: Racial origin defined according to U.S. Federal Government requirements. Seven categories are defined; however, the descriptions for Alaska Native and American Indian are identical.Degree Credit: Credit used for the calculation of enrollment. This includes credit designated by Pellissippi State as regular, occupational or certificate, extension, co-op, contract, or developmental.Census Date: The 14th calendar day from the beginning of classes including the day on which classes begin for fall and spring terms.FTE: Full-time Equated Undergraduate Enrollment. At Pellissippi State, this is the total number of degree credits taken by undergraduate students, divided by 15.Regular Credit: At Pellissippi State, this is residence (main campus or established off-campus site) work creditable toward a certificate or two-year degree.Co-op Credit: Credit received by students in cooperative programs during those terms when they are working off campus. This credit counts towards a student's degree.Contract Credit: Credit received from any degree credit course where 50% or more of the instructional cost is borne by a source other than formula funding from the State of Tennessee.Developmental Studies Course: One of a series of courses designed to assist students in developing proficiency in basic skills or academic competencies in writing, reading, math, and/or learning strategies.Basic and/or Developmental Credit: Credit received from a course in the Developmental Studies Program. Basic courses in the Developmental Studies Program (DSP) are numbered from 0700 to 0799. DSP courses designed to assist students in developing proficiency in the academic competencies defined by the College Board's EQ Project are numbered from 0800 to 0899.Occupational or Certificate Credit: Undergraduate credit received by students in occupational or certificate programs that prepare students for specific semi-skilled, skilled, or technical occupations.Audit Credit: Credit value assignment based on what value would have been had the course been taken for credit. |
