Mathematics Department
Calculator/Computer Philosophy

The Mathematics Department of Pellissippi State Community College fully supports the recommendations of the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics and of the American Mathematical Association of Two-Year Colleges that calculators/computers be integrated into all mathematics courses for classwork, homework, and testing. The department believes that all teachers in all courses should promote the use of calculators, where appropriate, to enhance mathematics instruction in computation, problem solving, concept development, pattern recognition, data analysis, graphing, and testing.

The Mathematics Department also believes that there are certain mathematical skills that students should master with paper and pencil; therefore, some restrictions may be placed on the use of calculators/computers in specific courses.

Note: Each course syllabus should include any statements of calculator/technology requirements and/or restrictions that are specific to a course.
