Photography

The Photography Program at Pelissippi State is designed to give students a balanced, practical foundation for entering the profession in the digital age. All of the facilities are digital, with industry-standard tools like Photoshop®, Bridge®, Lightroom® and Photo Mechanic® incorporated into the course material. Our instructors include many working professionals who can give first-hand insight into the photography field.

Students are shown the tools & techniques needed to build foundation for nearly any photo career. Camera mastery, studio portrait & still life lighting, photojournalism and digital imaging are among the skills developed. Learning these core skill sets allow the aspiring photographer to be able to express themselves more creatively and communicate more effectively through their photography.

Facilities

Photography students work in a professionally equipped studio with the latest in digital imaging and lighting equipment. Computer labs feature Macintosh G-5 dual processor computers with large flat panel monitors and wide-format, photo quality printers capable of producing archival prints. Students use these professional-grade facilities during both classroom instruction and the completion of real-world assignments.

Although students are required to supply their own equipment, a number of digital cameras are available for student use in the studio and on location as well as a wide selection of lenses, meters, and portable lighting equipment.

The latest industry-standard software tools are also available for student use in ours labs, including Adobe Photoshop®, Lightroom®, Bridge®, Camera Raw®, and camera control software by Nikon and Canon.
