Welcome from the Dean
I am proud to welcome you to the Pellissippi State Community College Department of Nursing as the Interim Dean.
Initially approved by the Tennessee Board of Nursing in 2009, nursing students were admitted to the Magnolia and Blount campuses in August 2010. The first class of 29 students graduated in May 2012. The PSCC nursing program was accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing in 2013, receiving a full 5 year initial accreditation. The program was commended for our “state-of-the-art laboratories” in which students use simulation to apply classroom learning.
In 2013, an LPN to RN bridge program was initiated which allows LPNs to complete their AASN within 1 year. The nursing program opened a third campus at Strawberry Plains at the same time.
As a faculty member, I am proud of the level of excellence found in our nursing program. Students are held to high standards in preparation for providing safe, competent patient care. The program has established a reputation for graduates who are skilled, caring, professional, and able to think critically. In my 24th year of nursing education, I continue to enjoy the reward of facilitating students to attain their career goals, and often their dreams.
Nursing is a great profession!
