Scholarships

There are many scholarships available for nursing students. Some are designed for students while they take their necessary pre-requisite courses. Others are available only after a student has been accepted into a nursing program. Below are some avenues to explore.

PSCC Financial Aid Office, Goins 101 - Pellissippi State offers several scholarships for students who are declared pre-nursing majors. One of these is specifically for Blount County residents planning on entering ETSU. Priority deadline for applications is April 15.

Tennessee Career Center Workforce Connections Employment and Training Assistance. State program which provides up to $7500 for many students who have been accepted into nursing school. Contact Tennessee Career Center at 594-5500.

PEO (Philanthropic Educational Organization) Continuing Education of Women Scholarships. This is for women who have had at least a two-year break in their education at some point. They must be US citizens, have at least a B average, and be within two years of graduation at the time they receive the scholarship. The scholarships are $2000 maximum. Deadline is early-April.

Johnson & Johnson Health Care Systems. They offer links to numerous scholarships. Visit their Web site.

U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. Scholarships are offered to students who have financial need and are interested in working in a health care facility with a critical shortage of nurses. Visit their Web site.

Tennessee Nursing Scholarships & Grants: There are various scholarships and grants available for students who decide to study nursing in the state of Tennessee. Some scholarships require a commitment to service in health care settings in critical need of nurses, while others do not have this requirement. Check with the nursing schools you are considering applying to!

Additionally, many local hospitals offer nursing school assistance or loan payback opportunities for employees. Contact Human Resources at individual hospitals for more information.
