TRiO

What is TRiO Student Support Services? It is a grant based program funded by the Department of Education created to assist in the retention and graduation of students who have academic need and are Low-Income, First Generation, and or disabled. This is done by providing a variety of supportive services such as:

Tutoring – TRiO provides one on one and group tutoring

Computer Lab – TriO has a small lab that members can use for assignments or research purposes. Computer assistance is available.

Counseling Services – TRiO offers Academic, Career, Financial, Personal, Transfer and Graduate Counseling.

Professional and Peer Mentoring – Need a little help getting orientated at Pellissippi? TRiO can help.

Leadership Opportunities – Opportunities are offered through the TRiO Leadership Team

Success Seminars and Workshops – From Study Skills to Informational Workshops

TRiO Grants – Members who have academic & Financial need, can apply for a TRiO grant for assistance

Academic Success Initiative – All members are assisted in the development of an Individual Support Success Plan.

College Planning – Assistance is given in developing decision-making skills to evaluate college, family, and work obligations in order to plan a program that will encourage academic success.

Career Development - Students are encouraged to carefully examine their major and career choices. A variety of resources are available through the TRiO office in conjunction with the Student Development office to assist students in identifying personality traits, skills, and interests that influence career decisions.

Transfer Assistance - TRiO Staff assist students who are seeking a four-year degree and help in the selection of their next college or university. TRiO will contact these selected colleges to obtain admissions requirements and financial aid resources. Assistance will be given in making appointments and staff will accompany the students for on-site visits and tours to campuses in the area.
