To request alt-formats:

  2. Provide a copy of your class schedule

Submit both documents to any SSWD staff member or email them to SSWD-L@PSTCC.EDU.

Description of Service

Services for Students with Disabilities provides textbooks to students with a qualified print disability in several alternative formats: narrated audiobooks, electronic-texts (e-texts) consisting of text, Word or PDF files, and braille. Students eligible to receive alt-formats have this accommodation listed on a current Accommodation Plan.

Request Procedure

In order to facilitate processing of your request for alt-formats, please read and follow the procedure listed below.

  1. Students must first register with SSWD and provide appropriate documentation to be eligibile for alternate formats.
  2. Students must have a class schedule in place before signing out any new materials. Students must provide a copy of their class schedule listing the classes they are registered for.
  3. Students must complete an Alt-format Request Form (DOC, PDF) listing each course for which an alt-format textbook is requested.
  4. Students must provide proof-of-purchase (e.g. bookstore receipt) of the print edition for each textbook provided by the publisher in electronic format.
  5. Students are notified by email to their PSCC email address when alt-media are available to sign out for the semester. Students are responsible for checking their PSCC email accounts to see if materials have arrived.

SSWD will only accept requests made in this manner. Completed forms and schedules may be submitted by email to SSWD-L@PSTCC.EDU or delivered to any SSWD staff.

It is important to participate in priority registration and to submit your requests for alternate format materials as early as possible. Plan ahead! It may take up to six (6) weeks to obtain the requested title, depending on the format. If you have not submitted your requests at least 6 weeks in advance we cannot guarantee that you will have the materials by the first day of class. Alt-formats may not be readily available or exist in your preferred format--please be patient and flexible. Remember, the earlier you sign up for classes the sooner a particular resource can be obtained and issued.
