Accessible computers equipped with specialized hardware and software are located in the Educational Resource Center (ERC) at each site campus. Students with disabilities can effectively interact with the computer and in the classroom setting using the Assistive/Adaptive Technology (AT) listed tools below.
To illustrate, a person with low-vision can hear ZoomText Mag/Reader read magnified screen text; a mobility impaired user can utilize an Intellikeys touch-pad or one-handed keyboard, trackball mouse, and Dragon NaturallySpeaking speech recognition software to issue commands and enter text; a learning disabled student may benefit from TextHelp! word prediction software and Web browser extensions; a blind student can scan a textbook and hear the words read aloud with the Kurzweil scan & read system or surf the net with JAWS screen-reader. A Braille embosser is available to print Braille documents and music scores (GN135).
If you would like to learn more about our AT resources and/or receive training, contact Don Amos (Goins 131, 694-6751, dwamos@pstcc.edu).
