Learning Center - Division St. Campus

What are your expectations of the Division St. Writing Tutors?

As writing tutors, we will do the following:

 1.     We will ask you to clarify your assignment. Bring your assignment sheet if there is one; bring your class notes as well.
 2.     We will guide you through our interpretation of your instructor's assignment. Remember that we do not have the benefit of
having been in class to hear any additional or clarifying instruction.
 3.     We will respond as readers, not error analysts.
 4.     We will point out some things you have done correctly.
 5.     We will suggest areas that need to be improved.
 6.     We will expect that you are coming to us for help, not affirmation that you have already produced a perfect paper.
 7.     We will question you about content and thesis in order to encourage thoroughly developing and researching your paper.
 8.     We may strongly suggest that you word-process your paper.
 9.     We will NOT edit.
10.     We may teach you how to correct your paper: we will NOT correct your paper for you.
11.     We will expect you to take full responsibility for the grade you receive on your written work.
12.     We will attempt to help you to be a strong critical writer and thinker.
