Description:Topics
include elementary probability theory, concepts of descriptive
statistics,
discrete and continuous distributions, hypotheses testing, confidence
intervals,
sample sizes, correlation, regression, multinomial, and contingency
tables.
Non-calculus based. Computer applications will be investigated.

years of
high school algebra and ACT math score of at least 19; or DSPM 0850 DSPM 0899 or
equivalent math placement score.

- Assignments and Grades
- Homework
- Homework
will
be
assigned daily
(see homework handout). You should complete the homework after the
lecture
on that section is completed. (See the calendar for the lecture
schedule.)
These problems are not to be turned in. Time will be allotted at the
beginning
of each class period for homework questions
- Doing
ALL the
homework problems
is the key to success in this course. If class time does not permit
answering
all your questions, see me after class or call or e-mail or visit the
Tutoring
Center.

are to be
completed in the open lab or at home. See STATDISK handout for

- The
exercises
are
to be turned
in for a grade on the date of the chapter test for which they
correspond.
Points for late work will drop 25% each day.
- Total
points
for
STATDISK will
be scaled to count as one test grade.
- Tests
- Must
be done
neatly, using pencil
and eraser, with work shown.
- Make-up
tests
will
not be given.
If you miss a test, your score on the final exam will replace a zero.
- In
some cases
a
test can be
given before it is scheduled - if I am informed at least one day in
advance.
- Quizzes
- Ten
point quizzes will be given on a regular basis usually at the beginning
of the class period.
- These
will be approximately 10-15 minutes long and come from problems typical
of your homework exercises. If you can do the homework, you should do
well on the quizzes.
- Your
quiz point total will be scaled to count as one test grade.
- No
make-up quizzes will be given. I will drop your lowest quiz grade.
- Final
Exam
- Comprehensive
and
required.
- The
final exam
will count as
one test grade and may also be used to replace your lowest test score.
- Final
Grade: The
average of eight scores:your (5) test grades, quiz grade,
STATDISK grade
and final exam.(Cheating in any form will result in a "F" for the course.)
- Grade Scale:
93-100 (A);
88-92 ( B+); 83-87 (B); 78-82 (C+); 70-77 (C); 60-69 (D); Below 60 (F).
