Second Life Info

This page is under development. It will comprise handouts, videos, and other useful information for workshop participants.

Box for workshop participants

There is a password-protected box in SL with inworld resources for workshop participants. If you have forgotten the password, IM me in SL from the avatar that you set up during the workshop.

Videos

  • This is a short video with an audio track that suggests settings for Viewer 2, the latest viewer for Second Life as of this writing (3 June 2010).
  • At first glance, you might think this is about replacing something real with something that's artificial. (We do that all the time with prosthetics, but that's another discussion.) Look deeper. This is about using Second Life for communication. The same advantages that TATRAC sees for amputees who need support accrue to students and clients of other organizations.

Take the time to watch the whole three and a half minute video.
  • This one is a few years old, but still is one of the best to demonstrate the creative abilities of builders in SL. It's a video of Robbie Dingo building a guitar.

General SL hints

This list will grow as I think of things to add.

  • How to open a box tells you, well, how to open a box. People often buy something from a vendor or from XstreetSL and then immediately try to attach it to themselves. They wind up wearing a box on a hand. (Better than it used to be, when the box would attach to your head.) This article tells you what to do instead.
