Giving Securities: Appreciated Security or Mutual Funds

Marketable securities held in a brokerage account can be transferred electronically to the Pellissippi State Foundation’s Morgan Stanley account via the Depository Trust Company (DTC) system. The value of each gift for tax purposes is determined by taking the means of the high and low trading values of the shares on the day they are received in the Pellissippi State Foundation's account multiplied by the number of shares transferred.

Additional Information Requested

It is most important that you notify the Pellissippi State Foundation Office of the donor’s intentions. It is important that the Foundation Office receive information on the donor and number of shares (or natures of other equities) being transferred to provide a proper and timely receipt for the gift.

Please provide:

• Name of donor(s)
• Number of shares and name of security
• Name of brokerage firm and contact person there
• Intended transfer date
• If known, donor’s intended designation for the gift. If no fund is specified, the proceeds from the sale will be placed in the Greatest Need Fund.
