Giving to the Foundation: Ways To Give
Bequests in Wills
Donors may make a gift to the Foundation through a bequest in their wills. Donors can specify an amount in dollars or percentages, may designate items of property to the Foundation, or may leave the remainder of their estate to the Foundation. Donors may also establish in their will a charitable gift annuity, a charitable remainder unitrust or a charitable remainder annuity trust, or a charitable lead trust to benefit the Foundation.
As with current gifts, bequests may be designated either as unrestricted, giving the Foundation the most flexibility to help the College, or restricted (that is, designated for a specific purpose).
Examples of various types of outright bequests are provided below:
A. General Bequest
Example: Leave $10,000 to the Foundation.
B. Specific Bequest
Example: Leave a vacation home to the Foundation.
Example: Leave a stock to the Foundation.
C. Residuary Bequest
Example: Leave “the rest of my property that I own at death” to the Foundation. (This is after everything else is paid or distributed as directed.)
D. Percentage Bequest
Example: Leave 50% of the residuary estate to the Foundation.
E. Contingent Bequest
Example: Name the Foundation as the contingent beneficiary in case the person you name as beneficiary dies before you or disclaims the property.
To our Donors: Your gift to the Pellissippi Foundation will impact your financial situation. This Web site does not provide legal or financial advice. Consult your attorney, tax adviser, and the Foundation before making or planning a gift.
